Metal Facades Integrate with Desert Landscape
Nestled in the arid highlands of the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains lies the larger than life, Sky Ranch Middle School. This Washoe County project built by Core Construction selected metal siding to add depth and unique appeal to its expansive campus. AEP Span metal siding panels were the preferred product of choice for this facade due to their color versatility, long term durability and low maintenance qualities. These are important factors for the extreme Nevada climate where summers are hot and arid and winters snowy and cold.
This project features AEP Span’s Select Seam® panels in a Sedona Rust print and Vintage® coating, providing rich accent pieces that integrate effectively with the desert hues of the Reno area and the earth tones of the masonry siding. The Sedona Rust offers a bright oxidized glow and Vintage offers a warm, classic aged metal appearance that is semi-translucent, allowing the character of the underneath metal to be visible, creating a distinct metallic sheen. When paired with the classic look of our AEP Span Nu-Wave® Corrugated panels in Metallic Silver, a striking contrast is created.
Much like the desert landscape, these colors provide evolving color as the light changes throughout the day. Nevada is known for its dramatic lighting and Van Woert Bigotti Architects took advantage of the natural surroundings with the selected products.
Applied to Select Seam panel, a standing-seam profile, in varying widths provides varied texture to the facade and capitalizes on dynamic shadows to further accentuate the siding color.
